Lagoon 40 Catamaran by Lagoon Philippines
A successor to the Lagoon 39 and the Lagoon 400 models—and a worthy competitor to the best-selling Lagoon 380—the new and innovative Lagoon 40 catamaran stands out with her stellar visual identity. Since being launched in 2018, she has taken the world by storm as the latest addition to the Lagoon catamaran family—small enough to be someone’s very own, personal sailing catamaran, while also being generous enough in space and creature comforts to be any family’s home away from home at sea.
While bearing the unmistakable imprint of Lagoon’s DNA, the Lagoon 40 likewise flourishes with qualities that make her unique among vessels of her size. Chief among these are her large rectangular portholes, as well as her bright saloon—a beautiful living space that is enveloped in expansive windows and offers panoramic views of the sea. Together with her overall streamlined design that is intended to enhance performance and her indoor spaces that enfold inhabitants in supreme comfort, it’s not hard to see why this vessel is fast becoming the watercraft of choice among Philippine yachting enthusiasts.

The Lagoon 40 Exterior
More than anything else, the Lagoon 40 is built with simplicity and performance in mind, a boat whose exterior is a product of the naval architectural design prowess of VPLP Design and the genius of French automotive and yacht designer Patrick Le Quément.
She is the epitome of the new generation of Lagoon sailing catamarans, endowed with state-of-the-art qualities that enable her to achieve exemplary performance on water. These include her optimized vertical bows, her gullwing bridge deck that enables smooth sailing on choppy waters, and her lightweight yet sturdy balsa core hull construction, which—together with her expanded sail area—affords better sail surface area and displacement ratio.
Moreover, the Lagoon 40 features a mast that is positioned well aft of her body, a result of VPLP’s extensive first-hand experience with competitive sailing. This decision has allowed the designers to create for her a next-generation rig system that minimizes work on deck and maximizes fun and pleasure instead. The innovations include the incorporation of a shorter boom and a self-tacking jib for easier maneuverability, the use of a large triangle that broadens one’s choices of sail types for different sailing conditions, and the inclusion of a main sail with a tall and high aspect ratio, enabling one to capture and take advantage of gentler winds at the top of the rig.
Aside from her rigging, the Lagoon 40 is also well-known for her fabulous use of outdoor spaces, enabling passengers to live in harmony with the sea. First, the cockpit area aft of the boat opens to a spectacular view of the ocean. Equipped with a dining table for 10 people on the port side and an ergonomic helm station on the starboard side, this area doubles as a space for both leisure and navigation, all while also providing easy access to the swim platform via two shallow steps off the transoms. On the opposite end of the boat, there is also a foredeck with 2 sunpads, a place where guests can enjoy basking under the splendor of the tropical sun.
The Lagoon 40 Interior
Special attention has been afforded by Nauta Design to Lagoon 40’s interior volume, layout, and accessibility in order to ensure the most pleasant experience of living at sea. Luxurious materials have been chosen to make the indoors extra comfortable, from Asburgo laminated floors and fabric-covered ceiling panels to interior woodwork elements that take advantage of the strength and beauty of marine plywood and Alpi walnut.
The cockpit and the indoor saloon of the Lagoon 40 are also on a single level, ensuring a seamless integration between the indoors and the outdoors. Inside, this spacious living area is equipped with a large dining table and a bench with locker on the starboard side. Thanks to the large panoramic windows in this room, guests are also perennially rewarded with 360-degree views of the surrounding environment.
On the port side of the saloon, there is an L-shaped galley where you can prepare meals and beverages on board. Efficient and outfitted with useful amenities like a compact countertop, 3-burner hob, oven, stainless steel sink, hot-cold mixer tap, cupboards, and a 130 L refrigerator, this kitchen makes ocean living easier for owners and visitors alike.
Like many of her siblings in the Lagoon family, the Lagoon 40 also comes in a range of accommodation layouts to meet the unique requirements of individual owners and of families of different sizes. Most notably, 3-cabin and 4-cabin variants are available to prospective customers, with the 4-cabin option possessing a design in which the port hull mirrors the starboard hull.
Each of the cabins is furnished with a 2.0 x 1.6-meter bed, underbed storage, nightstand, wardrobe, and portholes. Depending on the chosen layout, the cabins are also provided access to either a shared bathroom or a large bathroom. Regardless if you choose a 3-cabin or a 4-cabin boat, however, every bathroom on the Lagoon 40 is equipped with a big manual toilet, washbasin, cupboards, a towel holder, and a separate shower compartment with Plexiglas door.
All of these features combine to make the Lagoon 40 your ultimate vacation home for your sailing adventures.
